Charts and diagrams can be used to compare books to movies; however, students may also be able to use resources like Youtube to choose a scene that impacted them directly as well as describe the differences or similarities. This particular scene in the movie as well as the book was extremely heartbreaking to both a reader and a viewer. While reading the book Rudy was my favourite character so this scene was hard to read. In the book, Rudy does not wake up and speak to Liesel which I felt was more powerful. However; I felt this scene was made to be more appropriate to a viewing audience. As a class we could discuss the differences from the novel to the book as well as why the differences were made. I think including these last words that Rudy said reminded the audience of the innocence that had to endure World War 2. In The Book Thief Zusak is able to use his words to further imply the innocence of Rudy and Liesel, whereas in the movie Rudy's last words replaced the description. | |
