Below is a video made by one of my group members Shealeigh Brandford. It shows the importance of quotations or scenes according to each individual in our literature circle. Doing a video blog allows others to see a birds eye view of conversations that our literature circle engaged in. Video blogs are a great way of recording thoughts especially for individuals who are more comfortable taking part in expressing their thoughts and opinions through words instead of having to write their ideas down. I think it is important to differentiate for all students, and video blogs are a great way for students to experience different learning modalities. Video blogs could also be used as conversation starters or prompts for writing if a student is lost or is having trouble making sense of a certain part of the text.
Allowing a student to hear a different perspective of a certain scene may lead to a deepened sense of understanding. I know in our group's discussions I often found myself not even thinking of something of the topics my group members came up with which was truly eye-opening and allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the text. Collaboration, especially with peers is a great way to allow students to talk freely about the texts they are reading and to have questions answers in their peers language making it easier to understand and easier to relate to. I think this can work throughout all grades from K-12, as well as in post-secondary and beyond.
